Multi-currency

Collect pesos against a dollar debt, and record which dollar you used

The multi-currency handling of the management software for travel agencies.

Every currency carries its own balance and never blends with the others. Recording a cross-currency payment, you pick Oficial, Blue, MEP or a manual value, and the system stores the rate along with its source and its date.

Built for operating in a country with several dollars

Balances that never blend, and a rate that stays documented.

Every currency carries its own balance

The same booking can owe in pesos and in dollars at once, and each currency drags along its own total to charge, what was collected and what is left. A passenger group counts as collected only when every one of its currencies is covered: if one is short, it stays partial.

  • A separate balance per currency
  • Collected only when all are covered
  • Pesos and dollars

Four rate sources, not one

Oficial, Blue, MEP, or whatever value you type in by hand. Rates are pulled live and sit in the top bar with buy and sell values. When you record the payment you pick which one to use, and that choice is stored with the movement.

  • Oficial, Blue and MEP
  • A manual value when needed
  • Visible in the top bar

The rate is stored with its source and date

It is not only the number that gets saved: which source it came from and when it was quoted are stored too. Months later, reviewing a payment, you know which dollar the maths was done at instead of reconstructing it from memory or arguing it with the passenger.

  • Which source was used
  • When it was quoted
  • Kept in the change history

Reopening a payment does not touch the rate

If you reopen a payment recorded a month ago, the system does not overwrite it with today's rate. That number may be backing an invoice that was already issued, so it only changes if you deliberately change the source or ask for a refresh.

  • Never silently overwritten
  • Protects what was already invoiced
  • Changed only on purpose

Totals never add up different currencies

Balances, booking totals and dashboard indicators all show one row per currency, unconverted. Adding pesos and dollars forces you to pick a rate, and that number goes stale the next day without anyone noticing. We would rather show two true figures than one convenient and arguable one.

  • One row per currency
  • No automatic conversion
  • The same rule across the app

Invoicing in foreign currency uses ARCA's rate

When you issue a document in dollars, the rate is not set by Tripwise: it is requested from ARCA at the moment of issuing and printed on the invoice. If you collected at a different rate, they are two different numbers and each is documented where it belongs.

  • The tax authority's official rate
  • Printed on the document
  • One invoice per currency

Frequently asked questions

Multi-currency in Tripwise

What we get asked most about currencies and rates.

Argentine pesos and US dollars. Those are the two currencies enabled for each agency and the ones that appear in the collection and operator-payment selectors. All conversion is built around that pair, with the peso always on one side: there is no cross between two foreign currencies.

It is pulled live every time you open the application, from a public rate source, and you see it in the top bar with buy and sell values. Operations use the sell value. What there isn't is a rate history inside Tripwise: the specific rate of each payment is stored, not a series you could chart the dollar's evolution from.

No, and that is deliberate. Balances, totals and the agency dashboard's indicators all show one row per currency, unconverted. Adding pesos and dollars forces you to fix a rate, and that number goes stale almost immediately without anyone noticing. We would rather show two true figures than one convenient and arguable one.

Not necessarily. When issuing a document in foreign currency the rate is set by ARCA: the system requests it from the tax authority at the moment of issuing and prints it on the invoice. If you collected at a different rate from the one ARCA returns, they are two different numbers, and each is recorded where it belongs.

There is no house rate configured once and applied to everything. The choice is per operation: on each collection or operator payment you pick the source, and if none fits you type the value in by hand. That records which dollar was used on each movement, instead of an agency average nobody remembers the origin of.
